You play as Serenoa Wollfort, a young lord who is forced into the leadership of his house after his father falls ill. The opening hours depict the Kingdom of Norzelia as one of peace, with all three nations entering a period of tranquillity that is slowly but surely being bolstered with trade agreements and communal excavation efforts that will benefit everyone. Serenoa hails from Glenbrook, a region defined by its honour and co-operation, caught in between a duo of superpowers with more influence than it could ever imagine. The snowy plains of Aesfrost awaits in the North, its icy climate reflective of the harsh political machinations that underpin its nefarious monarchy. They are basically anime tories.
After taking part in your first momentous vote in Triangle Strategy , you will be taken to either the Grand Duchy of Aesfrost or the Holy State of Hyzante. With the latter route, Serenoa and co. get to see the scorching sands for the first time in the game and meet the hierophant. Hyzante’s egalitarian surface proves at least a partial facade, culminating in a conflict with rebel scholars whose worldview certainly does not mesh with those forecast by the Saintly Seven. Good thing we’ll have an ice mage to help us keep our cool. More Walkthroug
This event introduces Prince Frani, Roland’s older brother, and a whole host of other significant characters from the three factions of the game. You will also meet Hughette, a future party member who wields a bow and rides a h
Because players won’t be at risk of losing a character in battle, units in Triangle Strategy are a lot more different than each other. Although characters may die due to story reasons, that’s a controlled factor that allows each unit to have its own mechanical purpose and decreases the need for multiple units that do the same things. But it also means Fire Emblem games tend to have larger playable casts. Fire Emblem Gaiden has the smallest number of playable characters in the series at 32, and its remake, Echoes: Shadows of Valentia , added two more through normal play and four through DLC, similar to the four characters exclusive to Fire Emblem: Three Houses ’ Cindered Shadows DLC . Sacred Stones features the next fewest playable characters in the Fire Emblem series at 34, although its special Creature Campaign adds 10 m
Triangle Strategy veers in unexpected directions like this all the time, likely encouraging repeat playthroughs or a naughty bit of save scumming in case a pivotal decision turns sour. I stuck to my guns even when it was clear I should have acted differently, making me curious to revisit certain moments and seek out alternate endings where those I love might have lived, or sacrifices to my people might have been avoided if I was more cautious. One battle involves setting braziers alight to keep enemies at bay, but as a result countless houses are burned to the ground. These belong to real people, and they will reside by the wreckage in later sections talking about what they’ve lost while bitterly accepting that it was for the greater good. Nice one, Serenoa.
Triangle Strategy is a huge, sprawling RPG with a ton of content. While it starts off on the easier side, the difficulty ramps up quickly and you’re forced to think hard about what kind of strategies you want to employ in bat
This is the most readily apparent example of Convictions playing out in your favor; whatever it is that our above example would theoretically pertain to, you’ll stand a far better chance of accomplishing it with a high score in a particular aspect. Grinding that out, even if you can’t see the exact stockpile number until New Game Plus , is still worth the eff
As the first battle of the game, the battle in Wolffort Harbor is really easy. It serves as an effective tutorial for the game’s combat system, though, so read those pop-ups thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the concepts. Even if you’re an SRPG veteran, Triangle Strategy has its own quirks such as elemental puddles and its TP system for ski
At many points in the game, you will be required to answer a question in a way that develops one of these Convictions. While the characters are little more than a mess of adorable pixels and many environments deliberately resemble handcrafted dioramas, there’s an element of realism in how this game expresses loss and sacrifice amidst conflict, often placing harsh decisions on our shoulders and expecting us to reach an ultimatum that will never satisfy everyone. You will make mistakes as a ruler, forced to leave loved ones or citizens to die in the face of progress or knowing that the war ahead will see further blood spilt if we aren’t prepared.
During the short cutscene, you will be given a prompt and you have three choices for how to answer. This is part of the game’s Conviction system . As you play the game, Serenoa will develop his Convictions for three different philosophies: Utility, Morality, and Liber
