Armour is an important component of Baldur’s Gate 3. Specifically, you can outfit your character with headwear often referred to as Helmets that sometimes provide specific protections or abilities alongside boosting stats. Effects range from defensive measures such as protecting the wearer from Critical Hits to offensive postures like gaining a Bonus Action. Whatever the case may be, there are plenty of helmet items to consider in your character build.

This table displays recommended BG3 Ranger build choices for every level, including recommended spells, Class feature choices, and more to suit the gameplay of this build. There is a lot of variety in the choices that Rangers get to make while leveling, but these recommendations should work well for most combat situations, enemy types, and environments.

Your eyes become black corridors walled in teeth, your gaze capable of inflicting dread, sickness, or putting creatures to sleep. While Concentrating, you may cast Eyebite without expending a spell slot.

The target receives Disadvantage on Charisma Checks and is alflicted with Vulnerability to all damage. The creature begins to mortify, becoming a festering flesh sack propped up by bones, impairing its Charisma.

Touch an enemy to syphon their life force. You regain half as many hit points as hit points as the damage they take. For 10 turns, you can use Vampiric Touch again without expending an additional spell slot.

Players can also go for the Outlander background, which will give a nice buff to the outcomes of Athletics and Survival checks. Outlanders trigger Inspiration from simply defeating big bads in the wilds (or the depths underneath Baldur’s Gate), exploring the game to its fullest, and discovering things out of the way of the norm, like secret entrances or rare enemies.

Rangers are a damage-oriented class that can either focus on their ability to track, hunt, and kill targeted prey, or summon an Animal Companion as a controllable ally. Despite their name, Rangers aren’t limited to Ranged combat, but just about all of the major BG3 Ranger builds rely on Ranged skills for the majority of their damage.

The Way of the Open Hand and Way of the Four Elements have plenty of options and playability in their own right, but because Sneak Attacks and Stealth are so strong when used to initiate combat (or join it from the outside), the Way of Shadow reigns supreme.

Monks already have the ability to attack several times in a single turn, but by losing out on the last two Ki point upgrades and a feat choice, Monks gain this extremely powerful Fighter-exclusive skill.

Call down a silvery beam of pale light that deals 2d10 Radiant damage to any creatures that enters it or starts its turn in the light. You can use an action to move the beam 18m. On a successful save, targets still take half damage.

Ultimately, either background will work just find for Rangers, but it depends on your personal playstyle. Folk Hero characters typically are better for players who like to engage in side quests and save others, while Outlanders are more oriented for players who like to perform great feats on their own.
